 PROCESS OF CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

Curriculum is guidance for teachers and students for teaching and learning practices for a academic year or course content.  It is alien with education, so that educational goal can be achieved. Therefore, before develop the curriculum, teacher have to plan for curriculum, set the objective, select the content, organized the content, select and organize the learning activities then evaluation and assessment of learning is required. Hence, curriculum development process can be classified at different steps: - (By Mary Joie Padron)

  1. Curriculum Planning:  This is first step of curriculum development process. In this step , major issues & problems and learning needs are identified and are addressed/ If these issues and problems are not plan then curriculum will be not practical. Therefore, this is the first and importance step of develop plan for curriculum on the basis of finding the issues.
  2. Curriculum Designing: After making the plan of curriculum, next step is designed of curriculum. In this step what is intended outcome, what is content and what will be learning experience or activates and what are assessment tool and procedures are used to measure, are designed. For designing curriculum there are some points to consider:
    • State Intended outcome: What will be the result of the learner at practicing the curriculum activities? The planned outcome is stated.
    • Select Content: What should be known by learned? What content is to given to learner and what is to known by learner as the intended outcome? These are identified and decided.. Similarly, skill, knowledge, attitude and behavour are find discussed while selecting content.
    • Designing Experiential Methods: In this stage all the activities are to be conducted as content are find out and listed. The activities of content  are graphed and conducting methods are described.
  3. Curriculum Implementation:  This is third step of developing curriculum. In this stage, the designed curriculum put into action on classroom. The planned and designed curriculum is implemented at classroom to achieve learning outcome.
  4. Curriculum Evaluation: This is the last step, in the stage; the learning outcome is achieved or not, is evaluated. Whether teachers are able to teach or not as planned curriculum is evaluated. Progresses of learning or achievement assess. Students knowledge, skill and learning is evaluated. In the stage, weakness and straight of curriculum is analyzed. The learners' needs are fulfilled or not is find out and corrective action is taken for improvement of curriculum.

    In this way, curriculum is developed to meet the educational interest.
